Peace like a Consuming Fire
I have peace today. This peace is not a passive force but a fighting force like a consuming fire or a sword in battle. This peace is not a gentle breeze soothing my fears but a mighty gust of wind defeating those fears. This peace is from my God who is not just a calming shepherd leading me by still waters but an indestructible knight plunging ahead to destroy my worries, doubts, and pains.
Understanding peace as a powerful and active force gives fresh meaning to many familiar scriptures about God’s promises of peace to those who believe. Try these out and see what I mean:
- “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.” – Romans 16:20
- “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. ” – Colossians 3:15
- “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:7
- “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” — John 14:27
See what I mean? Peace is powerful – like a mighty king ruling our hearts and a soldier crushing our enemy. That’s the God of peace that I abide in during these uncertain times.
